USFS Peavine Trail Stage Coach
🏁 Stage Distance: 1.85 miles
⬇️ Elevation Loss: ~500 ft
🚵 Estimated Stage Time: 4–6 minutes
⬆️ Transfer Climb: (see route map – varies depending on approach)
📍 Location: Peavine Mountain – Reno, NV
⚙️ Difficulty: Intermediate
🌵 Terrain: High-desert singletrack / doubletrack mix
Stage Coach is a longer, top-to-bottom descent that drops riders from the upper Peavine trail network down toward the lower trail system. Covering 1.85 miles with roughly 500 feet of descending, this stage rewards riders who can stay consistent and carry speed over a longer run.
The route follows a mix of singletrack and trail network connectors, starting higher on the mountain before transitioning into faster, more open sections as it descends. Riders will encounter a combination of sweeping turns, loose surface conditions, and sections where maintaining momentum is key.
The transfer follows your mapped route up the Peavine trail network, using a mix of dirt road and connecting trails to reach the start.
Like most Peavine climbs, it’s:
Steady
Non-technical
Exposed
Riders should pace themselves and be ready for a longer stage effort compared to other races in the series.
Stage Coach is all about consistency over a longer run.
Unlike shorter sprint stages like Fisticuffs, this one requires riders to:
Manage speed over time
Stay smooth through changing terrain
Avoid mistakes that cost momentum
The elevation profile shows a steady, continuous descent, meaning riders can stay off the brakes more than on steeper, tighter trails—but line choice and control still matter in loose sections.
Longer sustained descent
Mix of singletrack and connectors
Loose decomposed granite surface
Flowing turns with occasional straightaways
Open terrain with wide visibility
Gradual, consistent elevation loss
Maintaining momentum over the full run
Staying off brakes in faster sections
Efficient cornering on loose surfaces
Carrying speed between trail transitions
No practice laps
Course closed until 5:00 PM
This is a longer stage — pacing matters
Loose sections will develop as riders come through
Number plates must be clearly visible at the finish
Check with finish crew after your run to confirm your number was recorded
👉 This is your “consistency stage”
Not the steepest. Not the shortest.
But one mistake = time lost for a long stretch.
