Welcome to Grass Roots Racing Reno LLC (GRRR)! Our races are designed to be fun, challenging, and inclusive, welcoming both new racers and seasoned pros. We focus on fair competition, rider safety, and good sportsmanship—so read the rules, respect the trail, and most importantly, have a blast!
All racers must ride within their ability and respect fellow competitors.
Racers must attend the rider meeting before the race starts.
Helmets are mandatory at all times while riding (full-face helmets required for enduro and gravity events).
Protective gear is strongly encouraged—gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads are recommended.
Racers must stay on course and follow marked routes. Cutting the course results in disqualification (DQ).
No e-bikes in non-e-bike categories—if you're on an e-bike, you must race in an e-bike category.
Respect the environment and venue—pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles.
GRRR events follow an enduro-style format, with:
Timed Stages (descents) – Riders are timed on designated race stages.
Transitions (untimed) – Riders pedal between stages within the allowed time frame.
Final Time = Sum of All Timed Stages
Some events may include modified formats, such as multiple-stage runs (Best of 3 race formats), or special prologue stages. Race details will be provided for each event.
Riders must start their stage within the assigned start window—missing a start time may result in a time penalty.
Riders will be released in intervals (usually 30–60 seconds apart) to allow for spacing.
If a racer catches another rider on course, the rider ahead must yield at the first safe opportunity.
Finish times are final once recorded—riders must pass through the designated finish gate.
If you’re being caught from behind, move over at the first safe opportunity.
If you’re catching someone, give a loud verbal warning (“Rider up!” or “Passing on your left/right!”).
Blocking another rider from passing is considered unsportsmanlike conduct and may result in a time penalty.
Racers are encouraged to help each other on course. If you see a fellow rider in need, assist when safe.
During a timed Stage: Riders can receive outside help (from non-racers) for mechanical issues or equipment transport.
Between Stages (Transitions & Venue Areas): Riders may receive mechanical or technical assistance to keep them in the race.
Racers can assist fellow competitors on course.
If a mechanical issue prevents you from finishing a stage, notify race staff as soon as possible.
Racers must register for the appropriate category based on skill and experience.
Age groups are based on a rider’s age as of December 31st of the race year.
Sandbagging (racing a lower skill category to gain an advantage) is not allowed. Racers found competing in the wrong class may be moved or disqualified.
Pro (Men/Women/E-Bike) – Expert-level riders aiming for podium finishes.
Expert (Men/Women/E-Bike) – High-level riders comfortable with technical terrain.
Sport (Men/Women/E-Bike) – Intermediate riders progressing in competition.
Beginner (Men/Women) – Newer racers looking for a fun, welcoming challenge.
Youth Classes – Available for riders under 18 (grouped based on age brackets).
Adaptive – Open to all ages and ability levels. Course accommodations may be available upon request.
Category details and eligibility may vary by event—check individual race info for specifics.
Only pedal-assist e-bikes (Class 1, max 20mph assist) are allowed in e-bike categories.
Throttle-powered e-bikes or modified bikes are not permitted.
Riders must start and finish with the same battery—swapping batteries mid-race is not allowed.
The following may result in time penalties, disqualification, or suspension from future races:
🚫 Course Cutting – Skipping any portion of the marked course.
🚫 Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Aggressive behavior, disrespect toward racers or staff.
🚫 Interference – Blocking or impeding another racer unfairly.
🚫 Failure to Wear Required Safety Gear – Helmets must be worn at all times.
Penalties are at the discretion of race officials and may vary based on severity.
Racers have 30 minutes after course closes to file a protest with race officials.
Protests must be submitted in person with a clear explanation of the issue.
Race officials’ decisions are final after review.
GRRR races happen rain or shine, but race officials may modify or cancel stages due to hazardous conditions.
Updates will be posted on-site and through official race communication channels.
All racers must sign a waiver before participating.
Racers under 18 need a parent/guardian to sign their waiver.
All riders assume responsibility for their own safety—race within your limits!
At GRRR, we’re here to race, ride, and build a strong mountain bike community. Respect the trails, respect each other, and let’s make every race a great one!
